Come in

«Come in» I told death. «You suit it well. I’ll let you claim it. »

I stepped aside as it swiped the house, choking it, sticking its fangs in the walls with hunger, licking avidly the last drops of warmth in the air. I watched, fascinated, as glass shattered, wallpaper split open like skin, wood bent, moaned in agony and popped to splinters like bones.

Whispers of plea gripped my ankles, fading away like snow.

Like those before me, I stood there ruthless and deaf.

When there was nothing left but mold and emptiness, I smiled, satisfied with my revenge.
